Mortgage borrowers will be able to temporarily cut payments in half

The Bank of Russia supported the proposal of the United People's Front to protect the rights of mortgage borrowers. The law will establish a mechanism that allows people to temporarily reduce payments on mortgage. Banks will be required to halve the borrower's payment for a period of six months if he is faced with objective financial difficulties.

According to Viktor Klimov, project manager of the ONF "For the Rights of Borrowers", this mechanism is necessary, given the rapidly growing housing loans market.

In most cases, six months is enough for a borrower to solve problems preventing him from continuing to fully service mortgage. The frequency of providing such an opportunity to the client will be limited in order to exclude possible abuse of this right. For conscientious borrowers, the period will be five years.

Also, according to Viktor Klimov, the monthly payment will be reduced due to the extension of the loan servicing period. The economic component for the bank will remain the same.
